Google Video Going Outside
By: Chris Richardson 2006-04-25 While the overseers of Google Video still enjoy and encourage user-uploaded content, they also feel it's time to act like a normal video search engine by indexing and linking to content found outside of their current network. Jennifer Feikin, director of Google Video, revealed news of this expansion during a roundtable session yesterday (4/24) in San Francisco. According to a VNUnet article, Feikin feels Google Video's index is at the point where they can pursue outside content. She also indicated the service would continue to support submitted content. One of the knocks on Google Video is the lack of outside content in its index. Currently, users are served result pages with content found hosted on the Google Video servers only. No time limit concerning the expansion was given by Feikin, although I'm assuming Google Video already has an index of outside video content, they just haven't integrated it yet. This, of course, would make any changeover happen that much faster. Hat-tip to Philipp at GoogleBlogoscoped.
