Market Share Drops For Google
By: Navneet Kaushal 2011-09-14 The comScore and Hitwise findings of the search engine market share present an interesting data. As per comScore, Google has experienced a below 65% drop in its US market share, for the first time since September 2009. However, Hitwise findings still project Google's market share to be over that 65% mark, though by a very minor margin. The findings also show Bing to have been experiencing a continuous growth. comScore findings show Google's share to have fallen to 64.8%, while it stood at 65.1% in July. Among other search engines, shares of Yahoo! and Bing now stand at 16.3% (up from 16.1% in July) and 14.7% (up from 14.4% in July) respectively. However, Hitwise shows that Google's share has fallen to 65.09%, from 66.05% in July. Yahoo!'s share has grown to 15.89% from 15.07% in July, while Bing's share has grown to 13.10% from July's 12.98%. So while the statistics differ in the findings of comScore and Hitwise, both nevertheless confirm a fall and rise in the market shares of Google and Bing, respectively. However, Google and Gmail feature among the five most visited sites from search engines, with the others being Facebook, YouTube and Wikipedia.
