Google Launches ''Now Open'' Filter For Mobile Search
By: Courtney Mills 2011-03-09 Google has introduced a few new mobile search features for iPhone and Android-powered devices that will speed up the searching process for local businesses. The most prominent feature is the new "Open Now" option which lets users filter their local search results to show businesses that are open at that moment of time. For example if you have a craving for pizza at 1 am, this feature can be really helpful as it will display only those local businesses that are currently "Open" in your area. Here is an example for pizza in San Francisco. The results will only include those businesses that have provided their opening hours in their Google Places Business accounts. So, if your favorite pizza place hasn't included there details, chances are they will not show up on your result page. Users can access this new filtering option from their iPhone and Android devices by visiting www.google.com in the browser, tap on the "Places" link at the top of the page, and do a search. The result page will show an "open now" link that pops up above the places searches. Android phone users can access this feature directly from the Google Maps page as well. Google is also now allowing users to filter their searches by distance (comes in handy when you're on foot) and users star ratings (average ratings based on previous users reviews). Users will also notice other improvements, in their location searches, like bigger buttons for viewing a map or calling a business directly, addition of images and reviews from around the web. All in all Google has made quite a few changes to make mobile searching a more convenient and easy experience for its users.
