Google Now Links To Competitors In Music Video Search Results
By: Navneet Kaushal 2011-01-19 Google recently announced that it will be linking to competitors video sites when someone searches for music video. In the post, Google said, People often come to Google to find music videos, and this week we improved our results so now when youre searching for your favorite band or album, youll find popular clips organized in a new way. When you search for a music video, Google is now showing links to other video sites (apart from its own sites) and search engines in the results. You can see the results (links to non Google owned sites) next to YouTube videos. For example, on a search for U2, the search result on Google now lists links to sites like Dailymotion, Metacafe and search engines Yahoo, Yandex etc. Also, explaining the way in which the new feature works, the blog said, that The feature scans the entire web for video content and algorithmically ranks the best sources for each song. Rather than return repetitive links, we group results for the same song together, making it easier to scan and choose the song youre looking for. There have been various complaints worldwide that, during searches, Google favors its own sites. There was even a formal anti trust investigation opened by the European Commission to look into the matter, if or not Google is misusing its power and position in the global market as a search engine giant. This move (coincidental or a responsive?) comes in the very needed hour to hush all the commotion and reclaim that Google still gives a fast and relevant search results.
