Google have launched a new vlog (video blog) series called Google Beat which talks about the most popular search trends on Google on a weekly basis.

The video will discuss all the latest topics that get searchers using Google, search trends and the most popular search terms.

Emily Wood of the Google Blog team explains:

Every day, there are more than a billion searches for information on Google. Have you ever wondered what those searches are about, or whether what you're searching for also happens to be on the minds of millions of others across the country? We're introducing a new way to find out " a regular video series called the Google Beat that highlights some of the hottest searches on Google in the U.S.

Google Beat will take data from Google Trends, Google Insights for Search and other tools within its massive armory and, according to Wood "give you a snapshot of some of the topics that prompted people to turn to the web over the past week and we're looking forward to seeing what our data will reveal."

Google isn't the first search engine to go down the vlog path with search trends. On the Yahoo Buzz blog, they post multiple entries per day highlighting the biggest topics in search and their Who Knew? web video series shows popular trends among Yahoo searchers.

The first Google Beat video episode is now available with Google Anne Espiritu explaining how "salmonela" and "eggs recall" were among the top searches last week. Feel free to check it out below and let us know if you found it helpful.
