Google Rolls Out Nationwide Search For Mobile
By: Courtney Mills 2010-06-15 We have some good news for all US local advertisers. Google has announced that its Google Maps "Tag" feature has been rolled out nationwide and also will appear in mobile search... ...results. Initially launched in February this year, the tags feature (formerly "enhanced listings") gives local advertisers the opportunity to have their listing stand out from the crowd in Google Maps. For $25 a month, advertisers can enhance their listing with a yellow tag highlighting specific information about their business such as coupon, video, website, menu, reservations, photos and custom messages. Here is an example of how the yellow tags appear in the Google Maps:
A warning: if you were hoping to use tags to increase your ranking in Google Maps, Google says dont bother. "Tags do not affect the ranking of the listings, and we clearly indicate which parts of the search result are sponsored" said Shalini Agarwal, Google Product Manager. The tags were available for 11 cities across the US, but the next rollout will include cities in California, Illinois, Georgia, Washington and Colorado. The image below shows how the tags appear in mobile search results:
