Matt Cutts Says Not To Focus On Keyword Meta Tags
By: Courtney Mills 2010-04-20 There's no doubt that the main aim of webmasters is to get their website ranking in the top of Google's search results. With so many factors determining ranking, it can sometimes seem... ... an endless battle in getting all the elements right on your site. Well, Google's Matt Cutts has one task you can remove from your list. Matt was recently asked if spending time optimizing keyword meta tags is actually useful. His short answer was: Don't waste your time! Keywords meta tags are not used by Google in determining your ranking, so Matt suggested concentrating your efforts on other meta tags. Description meta tags are one type which you must pay particular attention to as they may be used in the search results if Google sees them as being useful. Effective description meta data can be very useful in enticing searchers to click on your search engine listing as they think they will find good information on your page. The verdict: Definitely spend time on description meta tags, but Matt says he personally wouldn't spend any time at all on keyword meta tags. Matt explains his verdict in more details below, so make sure you check it out. Now that we have you thinking about optimizing meta tags, we wanted to make it easier for you.
