By: Navneet Kaushal 2010-04-15 Google has announced some significant improvement in the data provided by Top search queries feature in Webmaster Tools. We previously just reported the average position at which... ... your site's pages appeared in the search results for a particular query. pages appeared at in the search results associated with that query. Impressions is the number of times your site appears in search results for a query while clickthrough is the number of searchers who clicked on the search result to come on your site. The new data makes it possible to analyse the effectiveness of your SEO campaign and also helps target keywords in a more informed way. ![]() The improvements includes providing results for more than top 100 queries, which used to be the top limit. Also, you no longer have to download data and create your own chart, now the data chart will be displayed on the same page. ![]() There is also addition of a data rage selector similar to Google Analytics. ![]() If you have a frequently changing list of queries, the Top Search Queries also provides a feature to filter the data and keywords only. We analyzed the new features on nearly 500 sites and noticed that clickthrough rates can be as high as 50% for really long tail keywords. With data like this, a webmaster is truly empowered to decide the direction of his search engine marketing campaign.
