Bing Traffic Goldmine Located In New MSN Homepage
By: Courtney Mills 2010-03-16 Touted as its most significant homepage redesign in over a decade, Microsoft has begun rolling out its new homepage to select users. Microsoft says the redesign includes... ... more than 30 updates that are based on 70,000 pieces of customer feedback. These new features include: • TrendWatch " Highlights of daily top trends on Twitter • Hyper-local Tweets " Highlights tweets from your location, available on the new Local Edition through Bing • My Cities " Allows you to save up to 3 cities to follow in the Local Edition of the homepage. • A new MSN butterfly logo • Larger Bing search box • Live streams from Windows Live Whats New feed, Facebook & Twitter Whats certainly promising about this new homepage is the traffic its generating to the Bing search engine. Bob Visse, GM for MSN at Microsoft, recently told Greg Stirling from Search Engine Land that over the course of the beta period, the company had tweaked the Bing search box and its presentation at the top of the page to make it more prominent. This has resulted in almost 50% of Bings search queries coming from this little box. If you dont have access to the new homepage yet, then you can preview it at http://www.msn.com/preview.aspx From a design perspective, I think it looks pretty neat. Although not as minimalist as Google, the layout is quite simple, easy to navigate and has some great features. What do you think of the new homepage? Feel free to share your thoughts below.
