The List: What Has Google Done For You Lately?

Almost every week we hear of either a ranking update, a new Google project or webmaster tool. 2009 was certainly a busy year for Google; it left Yahoo! & Microsoft behind in terms of innovation (besides the new Bing search engine). Can you list all the new features and releases from Google last year? Thankfully, you dont need to rack your brain too much. Matt Cutts has recreated his recent State of the Index presentation into a video. The presentation outlines all the things that Google has done for users, web developers & webmasters lately? The video runs for 26 minutes, so if you dont have the time to check it all out, then here are all the new features and tools in list format: Users: • Chrome • Android • Wave • Music OneBox - ability to play songs straight from the search results and buy it straight away • Google Squared - keyword tool that sends back tailored results • Google Social Search - search for results from social sites such as Twitter & Facebook that are not included in the normal search results • Show Options in Search Results - slice and dice your search results • Wonder Wheel - keyword research tool Web Developers: • Page Speed - tools to make your site faster • Closure - compacts Java Script • Google Web Toolkit • AJAX Libraries API Webmasters: • rel=canonical " Although 2 web pages can be the same, if you add the canonical tag to one of them, Google will count the links for both pages • Ignore URL parameters • Fetch as Googlebot - especially useful if your site has been hacked • Better Malware Warnings - Google gives you more information as to the Malware detected on your site • Message Forwarding " Google Webmaster Consol messages will automatically be forwarded to your primary email address • Keyword Details " ability to drill down in more detail on keywords • Better Communication - via webmaster videos, blog posts, SEO Beginners Guide & webmaster consol in 40 languages • Caffeine " a rewrite of Googles indexing infrastructure Is there anything on the list that has been missed?
