Google Maps - Place Pages

By: Matthew Elshaw
2009-09-29

Google replaced their larger information windows in Google maps for Place Pages, which offers a more detailed look at almost anything on Google maps.

Place Pages are available for a wide range of locations including cities, neighborhoods, transit stops and businesses.

You can visit a Place Page by clicking on more info in search results or the mini bubble in Google maps. To give you an idea of the changes, heres what the expanded listing for Lombardis pizza looked like before and after the changes.

Before Place Pages:

New Place Page:

As you can see, Place Pages offer a much more detailed view of the location with additional information such as:

  • Transit Stops
  • Short description of the location/business
  • Images from Google street view
  • Other related maps

Google claims that each of these pages will have a unique URL but this will not be indexed in organic results. If youre a local business owner, make sure to add or update your business listing now to give yourself the best chance of ranking well for local searches!
