Website Navigation In Google SERPs
By: Matthew Elshaw 2009-08-25 In yet another Google test, some users have noticed Googles now showing breadcrumb navigation for certain search results. Google have been busy testing... ...a bunch of SERP changes recently, which some say is a response to the growing market share of Bing. Heres an example of how Google are integrating the breadcrumb navigation into search results:
Source: WebProNews As you can see from the image above, Google expands the URL line for certain results, displaying the full navigation path to the page displayed in the SERPs. Theres no word yet from Google about the test or how they determine your navigation structure. My guess is that theyre grabbing this data from an XML sitemap associated with each site. This latest test follows on from other recent changes at Google which include product specific AdWords listings and moving the paid results closer to free. It wouldnt surprise me if all the trials were just an attempt to fine tune Google results before the Yahoo/Bing partnership brings about some serious competition. If youve noticed this or any other tests in the wild please let us know! CommentsTag: Google, SERP, SEO Add to Del.icio.us | Digg | Reddit | Furl Have a bookmark! -
