Google Squared: New Search Tool
By: Matthew Elshaw 2009-06-08 Google have launched a live version of their new search tool, Google Squared, which was first seen at their Searchology event last month. Google Squared gives users a new way to look at search results, by presenting relevant information about the search query in tabular form, much like you would see in a spreadsheet. The goal of Google squared is to help organize search results in a new way, and provide a comparison list of items related to your search term. From the Google Blog:
I can see this tool being quite useful for product comparison searches, but its not really useful when youre trying to research a very broad topic. I guess thats why the product is still a part of Google Labs, to see if users will adopt it. If you want some more information, here is a video from Google about the service: Its interesting to note that this is the second service Google has launched around the release of Microsofts Bing. Others have speculated in the past about Googles launch schedule deliberately attempting to overshadow competitors, so I guess this will add more fuel to the fire. If you want to give Google Squared a go for yourself, visit the page here and let us know what you think!
