Google Expands Search Results: One-line Sitelinks
By: Matthew Elshaw 2009-04-20 Last week we reported on a Google Sitelinks test which showed additional links between the page description and target URL for certain search results. Google have now taken this test one step further by expanding sitelinks to additional listings like the second and third results. A screenshot of this test can be seen below:
Previously, sitelinks only ever appeared for the first search result usually in a block of eight links below the listing. Now Google have expanded sitelinks so that additional results can also have a row of sitelinks, even if theyre not in the first position. These will appear in a row of up to four links right above the URL. This is great news for website owners as it means your site may start showing sitelinks for a number of searches where they previously didnt show. This has the potential to increase traffic to your site as it provides users with additional links to your content. Id recommend doing a quick test on some of your major search terms to see if youve picked up any additional sitelinks. In case you want to block a specific page from appearing as a sitelink, visit your Google webmaster tools account. Let us know how this change has impacted your site!
