Geotargeted YouTube Videos On Google Maps
By: Courtney Mills 2008-12-19 Want more people to see your YouTube videos? Then you will be pleased with Google's new initiative. Reports are surfacing that Google has... ... finally introduced YouTube videos into Google Maps. Although YouTube videos have been available to add to your local business listings for a while now, this new feature takes it one step further. ![]() Your video could be attached to anybody's local business listing, as long as it is targeted to the right location. Want your videos to be seen in Google Maps? When you upload your video to YouTube, click on the "Date and Map Options" and in the search box, enter in the location and set it. (See screen shot below for example) ![]() I have my reservations on this new feature. I agree that it is another platform for viewers to check out your video; however I'm not sure that this will add value to the Google Maps user experience. How does Google know if this video is appropriate to the map it is associated with? Will this feature be abused by YouTubers, geotargeting their video to an irrelevant, yet popular location, simply to get viewers? I guess we will have to wait and see how this pans out!
