New Google Tests! Better Listings And PageLinks

By: Rene LeMerle

The team down at Google are at it again. A new round of tests and tweaks to the SERPs has surfaced. Last week, several key blogs reported this latest batch...

...of Google tests which include PageLinks (a term coined by Danny Sullivan) and Enhanced listings

PageLinks:
Most of you will be familiar with Sitelinks, the additional links provided by Google for some listings when they secure the top spot for particular searches.

Now Google is offering links to particular areas on a page for certain listings. It appears that Google is recognizing web page anchor points and allowing searchers to navigate to these directly from the search results.

Enhanced Listings:
For sites that offer users the ability to review products and services, Google is now extracting these reviews and other data and displaying it in the SERPs.

Sites such as Yelp, CNET and Download.com simply have to label listing information in a certain format and Google will display it in the search results (see below).

Given the importance that users put on customer reviews in their decision process (see Matthew Elshaw's post this week), this will add more even more trust to Search results.

If you're a business owner, it's even more reason to encourage your 'happy' customers to rave about you online.

I'd be keen to see both tests become permanent additions to Google's search results, as they offer improved experiences for users and businesses/content providers.

What do you think? Would these improvements enhance your search experience?
