Ability To Turn Off SearchWiki, Coming Soon
By: Navneet Kaushal 2008-12-11 Good news for all of us! Google Search Wiki will soon have an off button. Google Search Wiki was getting somewhat negative response, particularly... ...due to the fact that once you opt for the feature, it cannot be turned off. ![]() According to TechCrunch coverage, Googles Vice President of Search Product and User Experience Marissa Mayer defended the feature today on stage at the Le Web conference in Paris, France and argues that it has a minimal visual impact but the fact is that a majority of users are finding it useful to move search results around on the page. She also elaborated on the fact that they are likely to add a toggle button to allow users to turn the feature off. According to Marissa Mayer, there is a possibility that the tool may be used in the future for ranking purposes as well. Mayer also gave her views on Googles use of user data created by actions on Wiki search in order to improve the overall search results as to make the experience of using the search engine a lot more better! For now that data is not being used to change overall search results, she said. But as far the future prospects are concerned, its likely that Google will use the data to at least make obvious changes.
