As this year draws to a close Google, Yahoo!, and Ask.com have released their top search trends for 2008. In most cases, these trends represent the...

...fastest rising search queries which have shown the largest growth from 2007.

Google's Top Trends
The following list represents the fastest rising search terms in the U.S. for 2008. As you might have guessed the Election was a major influence on users searching behavior.

When compared to 2007, the following terms have seen the most growth over the past year.

  1. obama
  2. facebook
  3. att
  4. iphone
  5. youtube
  6. fox news
  7. palin
  8. beijing 2008
  9. david cook
  10. surf the channel

Yahoo's Top Searches
Yahoo! have released their very comprehensive 2008 review which features hot search queries from a range of categories like celebrities, news, economics and more. I've included their overall top 10 list below, or you can view the entire lot here.

  1. Britney Spears
  2. WWE
  3. Barack Obama
  4. Miley Cyrus
  5. RuneScape
  6. Jessica Alba
  7. Naruto
  8. Lindsay Lohan
  9. Angelina Jolie
  10. American Idol

Ask.com Popular Queries
Ask.com remains the "best of the rest" holding 4th position in the popularity stakes behind the big 3. However their question based search focus is unique, so I thought we should focus on Ask.com's list of the top questions for 2008.

2008's most "Asked" questions:

  1. How do I get pregnant?
  2. How do I lose weight?
  3. How do I write a resume?
  4. How much is minimum wage?
  5. How much is my car worth?
  6. How do I change my name?
  7. What is the meaning of life?
  8. How do I register to vote?
  9. Why is the sky blue?
  10. How do I download videos?

Overall, 2008 search queries reflected strongly on the 2008 U.S. election, as well as the always popular celebrity queries.
