Yahoo! And Virgin Media Going Mobile
By: Navneet Kaushal 2008-12-02 British Telecommunications leader Virgin Media announced it will use Yahoo oneSearch for providing internet exploration facilities to its mobile customers. Virgin has plans to use the oneSearch at its new enhanced mobile portal from December 8. In a release, Graeme Oxby, MD Virgin Mobile said, The new Virgin Media mobile portal will bring the web to its consumers pockets. Users will have an access to all the information when Virgin will integrate Yahoo! oneSearch into the portal. California Internet Firms technology will be used for delivering news, games, videos, music, entertainment and online search facilities to those using Virgin mobile internet connections. It is also said that the content of oneSearch is customized for mobile use by minimizing the links followed to reach desired content as well as by formatting the internet pages for screens of mobile. This means that a search made on the name of a film will show pages with movie timings at cinemas as well as reviews and details of cast of the film. California based Yahoo, which was facing a strong competition for Internet advertising colossus Google, is now focusing hard on getting advertisers by targeting mobile customers. Mitch Lazar, MD, Connected Life Europe- Yahoo said, Virgin Media and Yahoo are together trying to enhance the mobile internet experience in UK as well as creating the opportunities for advertisers to easily reach audience of mobile consumers.
