The New York Times has a longer article on censorship of and through Google around the world. (Note as opposed to what you might understand...

...from the article, not all countries censorship requests are forwarded to Chilling Effects. We do not post removals from Google.cn on Chilling Effects because the Chinese government does not send written removal requests to Google, Google once told me... without clarifying just how they communicate with the Chinese government on this. Also note that in regards to the Holocaust-denial content removal, as far as we can tell some removals have been on a global level, not just for Germany.)
