2008-01-24 Noticed from a thread at WPW today that you can help Google Labs with a few experiments. Not sure how long you have been able to do this, but their are some pretty neat ones...
...anybody can try and use during your searching experience. Alternate views for search results See results on a timeline, map, or in context of other information types. With these views, Googles technology extracts key dates, locations, measurements, and more from select search results so you can view the information in a different dimension. Timeline and map views work best for searches related to people, companies, events and places. Info view shows all the data found for each result, to help you select the best choice.
Pretty much bundle events with searches. Pretty neat idea but really clutters up the SERP landscape. Keyword suggestions Try different keywords to improve your search results. As you type your search, Googles technology provides alternative suggestions to your queries in real time. This feature is also available on Google Labs as Google Suggest.
This has always been pretty cool for the SEO in all of us. I assume mainstream people would like it to consider how many websites employ this type of feature already. Just look at any travel website for instance. Keyboard shortcuts Navigate search results quickly and easily, minimizing use of your mouse. Current keyboard shortcuts include: Key Action J Selects the next result. K Selects the previous result. O Opens the selected result. Opens the selected result. / Puts the cursor in the search box. Removes the cursor from the search box.
I can make my own keyboard shortcuts thank you Google. Left-hand search navigation Search deeper in a particular type of content"patents, products or news, for example. Google searches across all kinds of content, then ranks results by relevance. If you want to see additional results of a particular content type, just click a link in the left-hand search navigation. You can also refine your results by clicking on related search terms. Right-hand contextual search navigation Similar to the left-hand search navigation, right-hand contextual search navigation allows you to search deeper in a particular type of content or to search related terms"but from the right side of the page.
Clustering right? This has been around for sometime now. These experiments can greatly improve your one box search experience. Which ones have you tried? Comments
