As most of you may know the movie and TV awards season seems to be starting off pretty lack luster. The Golden Globes broadcast on NBC was even canceled last night...

...because of the writers strike and the lack of actors that are willing to show up and cross pick lines. Well that wont stop the search engine industry from continuing on.

I recently spotted a new search engine awards website called Semmys. The Semmys are the brain child of Matt McGee at Small Business SEM. The Semmys are:

The SEMMYS are an annual awards event honoring the great content produced across the search and online marketing industry. Search Engine Marketing (SEM) has grown to include a variety of disciplines, including blogging, social media, reputation management, and more. The SEMMYS attempt to include all these elements into one awards event. We hope the SEMMYS serve as a complement to the excellent existing awards which honor blogs and bloggers.

Pretty cool name if you ask me. As Matt points out, sure we already have a decent SEO/SEM awards for bloggers and blogs at SEJ, but none for individual blog posts and articles. I think this is a great idea, but compiling the list has to be pretty hard. I sure there will be some comment back lash as why some posts were not included, but I think this can only get better as the years go on.

The categories for this years Semmys include:

SEO
PPC
Small Business
Local Search
Google
Blogs & Blogging
Link Building
Social Media
Analytics
Search Tech
Rants
LOL Funny!
Online Marketing / General
Reputation Management
Viral Marketing

Each category will be judged by few top industry SEOs specializing in each section. These experts include: Aaron Wall, Andrew Shotland, Andy Beal, Andy Beard, Barry Schwartz, Bill Slawski, Brad Geddes, Chris Winfield, Christine Churchill, David Mihm, Deb Mastaler, Eric Enge, Jeff Quipp, Jennifer Laycock, John Andrews, Lee Odden, Lisa Barone, Logoworks, Loren Baker, Matt McGee, Michael Gray, Rand Fishkin, Simon Heseltine, Stoney deGeyter, Sugarrae, Tamar Weinberg, Todd Malicoat and Vanessa Fox. VERY solid list. nice job by matt at getting the bes tin the industry represented here.

Hey Matt to make your job easier next year you should consider adding a link plug-in or tool that authors can add to their blog or website so others can nominate the individual post for certain categories. I am sure there would be a way to figure this out.
