Will There Be A Google Phone After All?

The last time we mentioned the ever-persistent rumors of the Google Phone (or GPhone), it was to point out that Google has left a gaping loop hole...

...in their previous statements about the phone, just in case theyll really come back and do it. And yet again, the rumors have surfaced that they will.

CNET reported on Friday on the latest rumors, this time from India, that Googles wireless phone could be launched within two weeks. CNETs Marguerite Reardon discounts the rumors, including reports from Rediff.com that say:
Sources close to the development said a simultaneous launch across the US and Europe is expected, and announcements would be sent to media firms in India and other parts of the world. US regulatory approval, which is expected soon, is the only hurdle that Google is waiting to cross, they added.
Still, Reardon hedges her bets:
So could a Google-powered device made by unknown hardware partners really be ready for launch in two weeks? I think thats probably a little too soon. I checked the FCC Web site Friday and Google has not registered any product to be tested with the FCC. Of course, if Google is working with a partner, as I have suggested above, the phone could be registered in the FCC files under a different companys name.
My gut feeling is that these Google-loaded phones will likely be introduced a little later this year and into early next year. But stay tuned. Ill definitely be watching to see how Googles ongoing mobile strategy evolves.
Even if its safe, her conclusion is logical. So dont go tossing your iPhones just yet. After all, you probably have a two year contract.
