The IPhone's Impact On SEM & Social Media?

The launch of the Iphone could prove the catalyst in finally pushing the adoption of mobile marketing by producers and consumers alike, using it as a valuable and effective advertising tool.

The Iphone debuted on June 29th and had some people waiting as much as six hours for the phone; demand is hot and growing steadily for Apple's new baby. It sold over 7000k units over the space of three days. The Iphone the web browser has a full, normal safari browser and is compatible with Ajax and other web technologies.

What is so amazing about this phone that people waited outside for as much as six hours for the Iphone in NYC ? For one, it renders the screen completely normally and allows you to zoom in on the selected parts and can navigate basically any website. Then you get the video conferences, the super easy user features, the huge mp3 player and so much more. The average person may not want to do that much reading normally, but with built-in Wifi and a high resolution screen I imagine the marketplace and demand for the Iphone and its successors will only grow, not to mention that the demand for viewing video information on websites is going to skyrocket.

What are some ways it could impact social media? It all depends on what you can create. For example, create short embedded videos aimed at solving the problems or giving the information a mobile user is most likely to want or need. Some examples of cases where video might be used in social media are: immediate needs like directions, answers to questions that can't wait, entertainment e.g. "I'm super bored, entertain me as I wait for the bus;" and much more.

One thing is for sure: Apple has created a truly revolutionary product for the cellphone industry. In just a year we will start to see the ramifications of this technology and the growth it spurs in the communications industry. It comes at the right time, when more people than ever are creating content for the web and video use and reliance is growing in leaps and bounds; its awesome that finally, people have a phone that is sleek, efficient and up to the task of becoming a major player in the search marketing and social media industries.
