Happy Birthday, Google!
By: Nathan Weinberg 2006-09-27 Today, September 27, is Google's eighth birthday. Congrats, Googlers! I can't wait for the big 10. Zorgloob found the Google Doodle for this year's birthday: Link: Zorgloob In just eight years, Google has almost single-handedly changed the internet, and especially the way we find websites. Sure, the old model of word-of-mouth still works (MySpace the most recent example), but Google made it possible for all sorts of little websites to gain lots of visitors, just by ranking well on the long tail. The fact is, the blogosphere would not work financially if not for all the search engine visitors, and we have Google to thank for that. Congrats to Sergey and Larry, who have created a $100 billion+ company, made boatloads of cash, and continue to surprise us on a daily basis. UPDATE: Matt Cutts figured it out: The first two candles are a V, the last three are three I's, making for the Roman numeral VIII, or eight. Brilliant! Tag: Google Add to Del.icio.us | Digg | Yahoo!
