New to this...Ranking Questions
First let me say I am new to this and have about as much technological saavy as a board. That being said...

My company is in the process of redesigning our website. The old site (and so far the new site) do not have metatags. Below is what I've written, getting help from some books I've read.

<TITLE>CommNav, Your Business. Anytime. Anyplace. Home Page.</TITLE>
<meta name=”ROBOTS” content-“index ,follow”/>
<META http-equiv=”Expires” content=”-1”/>
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" CONTENT="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"/>
<META NAME="Description" CONTENT="CommNav Web Portal products are created to span many platforms and business systems. Software that allows you to conduct your business at anytime from anyplace."/>
<META NAME="Keywords" CONTENT="portal software, enterprise portal, enterprise web, Web Services, corporate portal, Virtualization technology, CommNav Software, CommNav”/>
<META NAME=”Author” CONTENT=”http://www.commnav.com”/>
<META NAME=”Copyright” CONTENT=”http://www.commnav.com”/>
<META NAME=”Classification” CONTENT=”http://www.commnav.com”/>

Additionally, I have been posting white papers linking to our site etc in order to create more links.

Any feedback on the tagging or other ways to increase our ranking would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, in advance, for any help. ... Read More

Search engine friendly?
The days of simply making correct META tags are gone. Now, the search engine ranking becomes almost everyday duty. I recommend you to subscribe to several newsletters that would educate you day-after-day on what you should do in order to increase your ranking (ex: SitePro News). Only maintenance (not a frequent submission) makes a difference. Invest some money into keywords related to your business. Make some calculations to make sure it's profitable after you will get some results on your investment (Google, Overture). It could be quite expensive (some firms pay more than $10 per click) but could be only $.10 depending on a nature of your business.

Duplicate content in the search engines

[2003-08-01] Reader question: If I have my web site www.depression-therapist.co.uk and then got another, such as www.depression-therapist.com or www.depression-anxiety.com would I be in effect causing search engines to think I am spamming, if both sites have the identical written content? Will they take one or both of my sites off their search engines? Or will I have to make BOTH sites different? I would be grateful for any ... Read More

Search Engine Submissions and Re-submissions ...how often should you resubmit your pages, and when?
[2003-07-30] Do you remember a time when search engine submission strategies were fairly easy and worked almost across the board? Sure, we recommended manual submissions, and yes, we recommended daily submission limits, but the strategies were uncomplicated. ... Read More

Now On WebProWorld:

Page updates on a large site
I have a site with about 150 pages on it . Ideally I want a consistent look on every page , but it is not feasible for me to go through 150 pages each time I want to do an update . I am looking for ways of updating every page on my site quickly and easily.

Pay For Inclusion & Submissions
Is it necessary to do regular submissions for the search engines one has payed for inclusion? Since they claim to re-submit every 48-hours or once per week or whatever (depending upon the engine), is it advantageous or is it a wasted effort?

Dynamic pages
Do you have any information regarding submitting dynamically generated web pages? These are the kinds of pages that have variables in the URLs, like shopping cart pages. I have heard that many spiders don't index these types of pages once they get to the "?" characters. Is that true, and are they ways to deal with this if so?

SE submission programs
Hi, I normally do manual submissions but need a good program to do some of the grunt work for me (it also needs to be able to do ranking reports). I have looked at Search Engine Commando and Web Position Gold but don't know which one really does what it claims.
